Couple of comments/suggestions:
1. Downshift into Neutral. Come to a complete stop. Then go into First from an absolute dead stop.
2. sometime I go into neutral and I need to double clutch to go into First. That means I pull the clutch, release, and pull the clutch in a 2nd time and I can get into First gear.
3. It is normal for 5th gear to require more of pull upward than the other gears.
4. Try to keep count of where you are. It is somewhat of a personal game to me ...but that is my problem.
